Most of the queries received by companies from their customers are similar. By organizing these customer queries and answers to these queries in a database, the time and effort required to answer individual customer queries is greatly reduced. For a smaller companies selling a few products or service, this Question and Answer system is called  Frequently Answered Questions.

For more complex products and services, this database forms a knowledge management system called a knowledge base. These databases are structured so that information can be easily retrieved and used for training or customer support. It allows less experienced users to retrieve information and find known solutions.
